Beginning April 18, everyone in Calabasas will have to dial 1-818 for all local calls.
Why? Because we’re getting an additional area code, 747, in our area as well. Instead of switching current 818 users to the new area code, they’ll both be used.
You’ll be greeted by a recording if you forget, but also don’t forget to reprogram your cell phones, fax machines, Internet dial-up numbers, speed dialers, call-forwarding numbers and other services.
State officials held public meetings and consultations to decide whether the 747 overlay would be the best option, which they decided to do.
The new 747 area code numbers may be assigned from May 18 onward, officials say.

Hmm…good or bad for the residents?
Doesn't matter. We'll get used to it once the prefix comes into operation.
Okay, so it came into effect yesterday. Lets see how it goes.
