A local association is offering scholarships ranging from $500-2,000 to local high school students about to enter college in an engineering or public works related major.
The Ventura County Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) announced the scholarships.
Applicants must be a 12th grade student or graduating high school in the spring or summer of 2010, and who will be attending college or university in the fall of 2010, and will be pursuing studies in a public works related field of study. Examples of public works related fields of study are as follows:
• Civil or Structural Engineering
• Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Traffic/Transportation Engineering
• Geology or Geotechnical Engineering
• Geographic Information Systems • Sanitary Engineering
• Environmental Sciences
• Public Administration
• Construction Management
• Architectural Sciences
• Land Surveying
• Urban Planning
• Public Management
• Geography
Not all engineering majors are related to public works (i.e. biomedical engineering). The selection of the scholarships will be based on the academic achievements of the student and his/her expressed interest to pursue a career in engineering or public works related field. To be eligible for consideration for a scholarship, the applicant must complete and submit the application form posted on http://ventura.apwa.net/ and other required documents listed in page 2 of the application.
