Pipe Bomb Found at Pierce College

February 18, 2010

Police say a pipe bomb was found Monday afternoon at Pierce College.

A man turned the bomb into the sheriff’s station on campus in the afternoon, saying he had found it near a pond on the Woodland Hills campus.

Authorities say the explosive was live.

The school was closed because of Presidents Day, and the bomb squad evacuated the area as they searched for other bombs, finding none.

Answering the “what kind of person picks up a pipe bomb?” question, police say that the man evidently didn’t know what it was.

The bomb squad blew up the device later that afternoon.
