New School Calendar for the Fall

Las Virgenes Unified School District students will start school later and end earlier next year.

The school board voted unanimously that starting in the 2010-2011 school year, students will begin class on September 1, 2010, and end on June 9, 2011.

The move is designed to save $2.5 million in costs and bring a $13 million deficit to within $5 million.

The school board elected to make calendar changes instead of taking a furlough week in the middle of the school year or eliminating 73 teaching and counseling positions.
