New Parkland Dedicated in Calabasas

June 14, 2010

The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority opened a 200-acre area in Calabasas Saturday with a dedication ceremony for the $6.25 million public parkland.

A $1-per-ton fee trash haulers paid for use of the nearby LA County Sanitation District and Calabasas Landfill financed the rugged and undeveloped hilltop area northwest of where the Ventura Freeway crosses Las Virgenes Road.

Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) members said the area will remain undeveloped. The MRCA is a partnership between local parks districts in Simi Valley Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. You can view photos of the parkland here.
