This article has updated at Calabasas hotel here.
There are three hotels in Calabasas, California, but only two good choices.
Let’s start with the one to avoid: Carlson’s Country Inn & Suites. There are certainly worse places to stay and worse deals out there, but not among hotels in Calabasas. If you read around on review sites like TripAdvisor.com, you’ll see a few reviews that call it “perfect” and “great,” which seem too good to be true. Don’t believe them, because they’re overwhelmed by lots of reviews talking about the dated styles, mold, noise, stains … you get the point. If you were paying $50 for a motel of its class that’s one thing, but not for substantially more.
The good news is that the two remaining Calabasas hotels, the Good Nite Inn and the Hilton Garden Inn, both offer you a lot.
The Good Nite Inn – Calabasas is the least expensive in town, with rooms for as little $46. For a nice city like Calabasas, that’s a really low rate, which could scare some people away, but the hotel isn’t bad at all. Close to the 101 freeway, it offers what you’d expect: internet access with a fee, a pool, jacuzzi and basic rooms. A few people have complained about thin walls, but not excessively. You won’t confuse the Good Nite Inn with a Ritz, but it’s a great value for the money.

Hilton Garden Inn, Calabasas CA
Finally, there’s the Hilton Garden Inn Calabasas. It doesn’t have the snazziness of a Hilton, but has all of the amenities and style that you’d expect from their Garden Inn hotels. The prices are affordable for a Hilton or really any Calabasas hotel, as low as $110 although like all hotel’s, they fluctuate depending on the season. For a little more money, you can get a room with a nice jacuzzi in it. Not one of those cheesy bathtubs with an extra two water jets, but a nice oversized tub in a big room. Plus, they found someone with style who decorated the room, which is always a pleasant surprise.
Hands down, this is the favorite Calabasas hotel location for residents who live in the city.
One Yelp reviewer summed it up nicely: The Hilton Garden Inn’s Calabasas location lives up to the stellar standards set by its siblings in San Diego and El Segundo! What I also like about the Calabasas property: — Dennis, the night manager. He’s always quite cheerful and ready to help. — Its 5-minute walking distance to the Commons Center.”
Ah yes, the Calabasas Commons, which almost adjoins the Calabasas Hilton Garden Inn.
Calabasas isn’t a big town and if you’re traveling in California you probably have a car, but the Calabasas Hilton Garden is within yards of the Calabasas Commons, which has movies, shops, nice restaurants and even a Johnny Rockets. It’s an extra benefit to be in a hotel or motel where you can stroll over to a very cool shopping area. Whether it’s a place to stay for business, house your in-laws or for a night away from the kids, the Hilton is the best choice among Calabasas hotels. It’s even better than the regular Hilton in Woodland Hills or most hotels in Malibu.
The city of Calabasas is an easy town to visit, whether for vacation or work. It’s not in the hub of Los Angeles, but it’s close to the beach in Malibu, not that far from the west side of L.A. and a generally nice city to visit, so it’s somewhat of a surprise that there aren’t more Calabasas hotels or motels.
Have you ever wondered what the official difference between a hotel and a motel is? Actually the words don’t carry any “official” recognition or import. A motel, came most likely from a combination of the words “motor hotel” in the 50’s, is best said to be a one to three story structure with rooms that open to the motel’s outside, usually surrounded by a common balcony or patio. A hotel has rooms that open to the hotel’s inside, along a hallway, and is usually multi-storied. You probably would say we don’t have any Calabasas motels, all being hotels instead.
Enjoy yourself!
