Elizabeth Prophet Dies

Before it was a park, before it was Soka University, it was “Camelot.”
Now Elizabeth Prophet, the bizarre spiritual leader who was based in Calabasas during the 70′s and 80′s, has died.
In 1977, her organization purchased a the former seminary moved its operations there until 1986. Faced with opposition from governmental agencies, including the CA Coastal Commission, the church never built its larger headquarters here.
Her beliefs combined aspects of numerous religions, mixing Western philosophy with mysticism and at one time claimed to have over 50,000 followers.
Called “Guru Ma” by her followers, she retired in 1999 running the church and died in Montana at age 70.
