Elder Abuser Sentenced to Six Years

May 28, 2010

A judge sentenced Cesar Ulloa, formerly a caregiver at a high-end retirement home in Calabasas, to life imprisonment earlier this week for torturing vulnerable residents.

A jury convicted Ulloa, 21, of eight counts of torture and elder abuse for intentionally harming elderly residents at Silverado Senior Living who were unable to recall or communicate the abuse they suffered at Ulloa’s hands in April, and on Wednesday Judge Martin Herscovitz handed down a six-year sentence in the case.

Adelina Campos, one of Ulloa’s co-workers at the nursing facility, told her mother she had witnessed Ulloa abusing a patient with dementia, and Campos’s mother relayed that information to the victim’s wife. Authorities then cleared the way for an exhumation of the man’s body, and an autopsy showed he suffered multiple broken bones and blunt force trauma that contributed to his death.
