Company Breaks Ground on Affordable Senior Housing Project

June 2, 2010

An official groundbreaking ceremony on El Canon Avenue in Calabasas last week ushered in the beginning of the construction phase for the affluent community’s first affordable housing project.

The 75-unit apartment complex, which Thomas Safran & Associates is building, will be called Canyon Creek is designed specifically for seniors and will have a community activities room, gym and underground parking garage. Its location in historic Old Town places the three-story facility it within walking distance of Motion Picture Home, Calabasas Commons and the weekly farmers market.

Offering one-bedroom units for between $416 and $882 per month, Canyon Creek will require tenants to be a minimum of 62 years old and earn no more than $34,800 for individuals or $39,780 for couples annually. Safran will offer units in the $21 million complex via a lottery scheduled for next May. For more information, call 818.685.9971.
