Baha’i Followers Show Support in Calabasas for Captives

February 8, 2010

About 80 Baha’i Faith followers came to the Calabasas Library on Sunday to pray for their religious leaders, who are being held by the Iranian regime. On the same day, a hearing with the now-accused was held in Iran.

Seven jailed Baha’i leaders showed up in a Tehran court on Sunday for an hour-long trial session, but no date was given for further action.

Two years ago, the seven defendants—Mrs. Fariba Kamalabadi, Mr. Jamaloddin Khanjani, Mr. Afif Naeimi, Mr. Saeid Rezaie, Mrs. Mahvash Sabet, Mr. Behrouz Tavakkoli, and Mr. Vahid Tizfahm—were arrested and have been held in a Tehran prison ever since.

For a year, they had no official charges against them and no lawyer access.

After all this time, they’re now considered to be officially charged with espionage and propaganda activities, cooperating with Israel and acting against the “security of the country and corruption on earth.
