3 Boys Arrested for "Ginger" Attacks

November 30, 2009—

Three A.E. Wright middle school boys have been arrested for investigation of bullying red-haired students after a Facebook page encouraged “Kick a Ginger Day.”

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said today that three boys were booked and released to their parents: two 12-year-olds who were arrested for suspicion of misdemeanor battery and a 13-year-old for “cyberbullying,” which is threatening via electronic communication to hurt someone.

No court date has been set for their initial appearance, which should occur at Sylmar Juvenile Hall.

A total of eight boys are suspected in the attacks and the Sheriff’s Department says the investigation is continuing.

The shoves and kicks were apparently prompted by a Facebook page, which itself was inspired by a “South Park” episode satirizing racial prejudice.

Nobody was seriously hurt and the most severe attack left a 12-year-old boy with cuts and bruises. Other children were pushed, shoved and/or kicked.
